Volkswagen has always used the Jetta compact car as its trump card in its mission for becoming the world’s largest automobile manufacturer. The Jetta had earned the reputation for its simplicity as it was positioned as a ‘no-nonsense’ car that delivered high practicality at a low cost.
Jetta’s simplicity helped it to generate sales in the USA and the Middle East. Moreover, it made the car a competent rival against the likes of Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. However, the car wasn’t popular in key markets like Europe where other VW vehicles like the Golf provided successful due to their stylish design.
Realizing that the customers are becoming more style conscious, Volkswagen finally decided to design a larger Jetta that will based on the MQB platform and whose style will also appeal to European customers. The length and the width of the compact sedan have been increased by 43 mm and 35 mm respectively. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was unveiled at the ongoing 2018 Detroit Motor Show and the new model clearly appears to be more comfortable than the existing models.
The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is delivered 147 hp and184 pound feet of torque by a 1.4-litre turbo-4 engine. The engine will be coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission or 8-speed automatic transmission. Besides the base model, all other trim levels will come with an 8-speed auto transmission. Customer has the option of ordering a base model that has a 6-speed manual transmission.
The automatic transmission is paired with a start/stop system that delivers high fuel economy. Currently, the fuel-economy ratings are not available and it is estimated that the upcoming Jetta model will provide an average fuel economy of 32 mpg. The figures have been projected on the basis of previous model’s performance.
The previous Jetta had interiors that looked ordinary. On the other hand, the new Jetta’s cabin gives us a premium feel due to the improved quality of materials that are used. Additionally, the interiors get heated and cooled seats in addition to other features like dual-zone climate control and leather seating.
The 2019 Jetta will have the latest Volkswagen MIB system that features a 10.2-inch Active Info Display and a touchscreen-based infotainment system. The system has applications like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink. The entertainment quotient of the vehicle is further enhanced by a 400-Watt Beats Audio sound system.
