The next-generation Peugeot 2008 to get new improvements

The Peugeot 2008 is one of the best-selling as well as the oldest SUV that has gained popularity in Europe as well as the Middle East. Even newer models like Kia Stonic and Hyundai Kona have failed to woo customers away from the Peugeot 2008.  Peugeot 2008 might have gained unprecedented popularity but its success hasn’t stopped Peugeot engineers from rethinking the product strategy. The next-generation Peugeot 2008 has been designed and the model is expected to be launched by early 2019.  A rendered image of the upcoming model has been released so that car enthusiasts can get a feel of what the new Peugeot 2008 will look like.

New improvements

Even though it will be based on the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUV’s, the next-generation Peugeot 2008 will be more roomy with a larger boot space. The dashboard will be similar to the one found in 3008/5008 SUV’s and the lower position of the steering wheel increases of the digital infotainment screen. The small SUV will get the latest technologies including the I-Cockpit digital instrument cluster.

The powertrain

The next-generation Peugeot 2008 is speculated to come with three-cylinder as well as four-cylinder gasoline and diesel options. The SUV will probably come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre HDI diesel engine.  Customers can also expect an electric variant to be launched along with the petrol and diesel versions. Details about the electric variant are not confirmed but it is assumed that all-electric Peugeot 2008 will have a range of 185 miles. The assumption is based on the fact that the Peugeot 2008 SUV is based on the Peugeot 208 hatch which is going to get an all-electric version in 2019.  So, there is a strong possibility that the Peugeot will adopt a similar strategy for the SUV.

The Peugeot 2008 competes mainly with the Renault Captur. The Capture is reportedly more economical than the Peugeot 2008 and it has also been equipped with advanced technologies and stylish feature to gain an edge in the competition. Will the next-generation Peugeot 2008 get the better of the Renault Captur? Please share your opinions in the comment box below.
